Jacob Wool.
Jacob Wool
Jacob wool is recognised as a great wool for the hand crafter - if chosen and
treated correctly. As with all animal traits there is variation within the breed
and within every flock. We hope to breed for good wool quality with as little
kemp as possible and a good soft feel.
This year we collected enough wool to send it off for professional treatment.
Halifax Mills near Leeds were very pleased with the quality of the wool we sent
and made a great job of processing it for us. As a result we now have the
following for sale........

Grey Double Knitting wool - the coloured and white fibres were cleaned and
blended then spun to make a lovely mottled, soft, grey wool. Available in 50g
balls.
Grey single ply wool - processed with weavers in mind this is still 'in
the grease'. It could also be spun again by hand to any thickness desired for a
variety of uses.
Slithers - We separated a certain amount of the wool into 'black'
and 'white' and some as mixed 'grey' which was washed and carded
but left as soft sorted fleece ideal for felting projects both for wet felting
and needle felting.
Untreated Fleece - We still have a number of untreated fleeces from
second and third year shearings. The wool is still of very good quality - any
fleeces that are not up to scratch are used for compost and mulch in the garden.
Sheepskin rugs - We have so far failed to slaughter an animal at the
right time to get a nice fleece with the right length wool. As soon as we do
they will be for sale - let us know if you fancy the idea and we can put you on
the list.
We are also using the wool to create our own craft items that will be for
sale on the website as well as at local craft fairs and events.
If you are interested in the wool we have to offer then please contact us to
arrange for a sample or to come and visit!
